“These two Chardonnays combine grapes from all corners of Burgundy into their cuvées. The result is an elegant yet vibrant expression of Chardonnay that is undeniably “Burgundy.” Delicate fruit, mineral balance, and snappy acidity make these wines perfect summer wines to chill along the beach or river. Perfect pairings this season I’m thinking all things seafood. Pan seared scallops, broiled trout with beurre Blanc, or fresh raw oysters, or for vegetarians, pasta al limone or cream primavera with grilled vegetables.
The Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay exhibits a montage of ripe yellow fruit, ripe Meyer lemon, green pear, citrus peels, and an explosion of white flowers. All of this fruit is supported by a stark mineral backbone and typical white Burgundy’s steely undertone. A hint of malolactic fermentation softens the still vibrant acidity reminiscent of Bulgarian yogurt, with just enough oak to add some structure and a whisper of vanilla cake.
The Joseph Drouhin Bourgogne features a slightly more tart fruit character and an earthier expression of Burgundy. A brilliant bouquet of honeydew and jasmine green tea trails into granny smith apple, Asian pear, green lemon, fresh pineapple, and white peach. We still have the classic Burgundy aroma of summer rain on stone which blends itself into fresh hay and faint enoki mushroom. For such a young wine, it exhibits an almost aged quality while still being vivacious with a snappy acidity.”
